Description
Phosphorite iron (a symbiotic compound containing 20–26% phosphorus and 0.1–6% silicon) also contains impurities such as silicon, manganese, carbon, and sulfur. Based on phosphorus content, it is classified as FeP24 (P23–25), FeP21 (P20–23), FeP18 (P17–20), and FeP16 (P15–17).
It is mainly used as an alloying agent and a Decomposer for special steels in the metallurgical industry.
①. In most steel products, phosphorus is an undesirable impurity; however, in certain specialty grades, its addition can enhance strength, corrosion resistance, and machinability, while also increasing brittleness.
②. Adding phosphorus to cast iron improves the fluidity of the molten metal, thereby enhancing the mechanical properties and surface quality of the castings.
③. The addition of 0.5% phosphorus to gray cast iron can increase its tensile strength.
④. The inclusion of approximately 0.15% phosphorus in wear-resistant cast iron can significantly enhance its wear resistance.
